Transpilot will never condone non-peaceful protest in any form, by anyone, ever.
Yesterday, 10th October, a group called Bash Back vandalised the windows of a venue in Brighton where the FiLiA Women’s Rights Conference is taking place. Arranging the conference in Brighton, widely seen as England’s most diverse town and home of the LGBTQIA+ community, was however a clearly provocative choice.
From our perspective, nothing: not the prejudice, not the exclusion, not the long NHS waiting lists that lead to self harm, and not the actual harm visited on transgender people, justifies this vandalism or any other vengeful or violent act. No ifs, no buts.
The European Convention on Human Rights enshrines rights to free speech, peaceful protest and freedom from oppression, terror and harm. Everyone must respect this, including transgender people and supporters.
We empathise with anyone whose life is diminished as a consequence of actions such as this.
